Simple Past Tense

1. I woke up at 5 o’clock yesterday morning.
2. I tidied up my bed and cleaned it up.  
3. I took a bath and prayed.  
4. I helped my mother to prepare the breakfast.  
5. I had breakfast with my family in the dining room.
6. I went to school with my friends.  
7. I studied at school till 1 p.m.  
8. I went home, put off my uniform and had lunch with my mother.
9. I watched TV and took a nap.
10. I read a book and prepared the lesson for the next school day.

PEMBAHASAN:

Simple past tense digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian di waktu tertentu di masa lampau.

Time expression:  

• yesterday (kemarin)
• last night/week/month/year/time (semalam / minggu lalu / tahun lalu / waktu yang lalu)
• this morning (pagi ini)
• one hour/day/week/month/year ago (satu jam/hari/minggu/bulan/ tahun lalu)
• in February (di bulan Februari)
• in 2020 (pada tahun 2020)
• on Friday (pada hari Jumat)
• when + S + verb-2 (when he came, when I was a child)

Formula:

Verbal sentences:

• (+)  Subject + Verb2
• (-)   Subject + did + not + Verb1  
• (?)  Did + Subject + Verb1?

Nominal sentence:

• (+)  Subject + to be (was/were) + O/C
• (-)   Subject + to be (was/ were) + O/C  
• (?)  To be (was/ were) +Subject + O/C?

Perhatikan penjelasan bagaimana menggunakan to be di dalam kalimat nominal berikut ini!

• Tobe "was" digunakan untuk subject I, he, she dan it atau kata nama diri dalam bentuk tunggal.
• Tobe "were" digunakan untuk subject you, we dan they atau kata nama diri dalam bentuk jamak.
